# EquatIO

EquatIO is a Chrome extension that makes it easier to create equations, science symbols, chemical formulas or other mathematical expressions digitally. Some EquatIO features include:

- Compatibility with Google Docs and Google Forms
- Input equations through keyboard, handwriting and voice
- Reading math expressions out loud
- Creation of digital math quizzes that allow for direct student input
- Chemistry and math formula prediction

EquatIO allows you to enter math and science equations and symbols in the following ways:

- Equation editor
- LaTeX editor
- Handwriting recognition
- Speech input
- Symbol galleries

## Using equation editor

- Type in letters and numbers as usual.
- When any math terminology is entered, EquatIO will provide matching math predictions to choose from, and will then insert the symbol you choose.
- When any part of a chemical formula is entered, EquatIO will provide matching chemical predictions to choose from, and insert those when chosen.
- When the math or science text is completed, choosing the Insert Math button will add it to your document.

## Using LaTeX

- EquatIO contains a LaTeX editor option that allows you to enter equations using LaTeX syntax.

## Handwriting recognition

- Choose the Handwriting Recognition button in the toolbar.
- Draw in the Handwriting section of the screen on the left. You can use a mouse, or a finger or stylus on a touchscreen.
- EquatIO will try and convert your handwriting to symbols in the Math section on the right side of the screen.
- Choosing the Undo button will allow you try writing a symbol again that was not recognized initially by the program.
- When the math or science text is completed, choosing the Insert Math button will add it to your document.

## Speech input

Voice recognition may be used to translate spoken words into symbols and equations. This requires a quality microphone on the device being used to enter text.

- On the EquatIO toolbar, choose the Speech Input button.
- Choosing the red record button in the Speech area on the left side of the screen will begin the recording process.
- Begin speaking clearly, and EquatIO will attempt to translate your speech into written expressions in the Math area on the right side of the screen.
- When the math or science text is completed, choosing the Insert Math button will add it to your document.

## Symbol galleries

EquatIO contains symbol galleries for math operations, math functions, math symbols, and Greek letters. These galleries are available using any input method, by choosing Symbol Galleries from the toolbar. The symbols and formulas will appear in pop-up menus, and you can choose from these menus to insert into your document.
