She started her career working in geology, earning her MS in the field, authoring peer-reviewed articles, and working on large projects such as the BP Oil Spill. Now, Anne works to provide STEM education training and materials to teachers and students across the 4-corners states. Let’s meet Anne!

How long have you been at the CSTL?

2 years

What are you currently working on and why is it important?

I am currently working on STEM games, investigations, and challenges around NASA science for out of school time. Some of these are science-based card games and engineering challenges (PLANETS – Planetary Learning that Advances the Nexus of Engineering, Technology and Science) and some are robotics and technology challenges (NESSP – Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pathway). I also provide educator resources and professional development for teachers wanting to use these in their schools and programs. This year I am shifting my focus to making these activities more culturally responsive for underserved communities.

Is a hot dog a sandwich and why or why not?

I don’t know but once I was making hot dogs while camping and my good friend put a carrot in a romaine lettuce leaf and call it a vegan hot dog. I know that’s not a sandwich… or a hot dog. 😉 Love you, K!

If you could take 3 items to a remote island what would they be?

How long do I have to be there? Do I have to fend for myself? I’ll assume forever and yes, so I would bring a knife, that flint thing REI makes, and a space blanket – water collection device and temporary shelter while I learn to live off the land.

What is your superpower?

Being a working mom! Also self-care which fuels the first superpower.

Thanks Anne!

Interested in collaborating with Anne on an upcoming project? Email her at anne.hamlin@nau.edu to connect.

Anne is a Research Associate at the CSTL.
