class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maren Greve<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Undergraduate Psychological Sciences major Maren Greve received a $900 travel award to attend the Second Language Research Forum in Montreal, Canada.\u00a0 Maren, along with other members of her research team, will present the results of research conducted within the Department of English Language and Memory labs.\u00a0 The 37<sup>th<\/sup> annual forum focuses on the contribution of cognitive science to second language research and the links between cognitive, individual, and social variables in language learning.<\/p>\n<p>The research conducted by her team explored whether morphological type affected ease of learning.\u00a0 In addition, the team explored which cognitive abilities (declarative memory, procedural memory, phonological short-term memory (PSTM)), and intelligence predict learning in each type.\u00a0 Participants (<em>N<\/em> = 90) were taught an artificial language.\u00a0 Their progress was then analyzed using the factors above.<\/p>\n<p>Maren credits the statistics and research methods courses taught within the Department of Psychological Sciences with her ability to quickly become a productive member of the research team.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the travel award from the Office of the Provost, Maren received funding from
