Mark Montoya.\u00a0 Dr. Montoya is the Director of the Ethnic Studies Program at Northern Arizona University.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/undergraduate-research\/interns-to-scholars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interns-to-Scholars<\/a> program exposes undergraduate students to activities involved in conducting research, scholarly, or creative work with a focus on stimulating student interest in inquiry and the development of discipline-related skills.<\/p>\n<p>This engaging article centers on a narrated dialog between two first-generation students, one an intern, the other now a scholar.\u00a0 This conversation brings to the surface the challenges and successes experienced by a first-generation intern and the scholar\u2019s reflections, advice, and support.<\/p>\n<p>The article will appear in the next issue of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/firstgen.naspa.org\/journal-and-research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Journal of First-generation Student\u00a0Success<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabeth Martinez, a Psychology major and Honors student, coauthored the article Interns-to-Scholars: First-Generation Success Beyond the Classroom with her faculty mentor within the Interns-to-Scholars program, Associate Professor T.
