{"id":1147,"date":"2018-12-13T17:38:40","date_gmt":"2018-12-14T00:38:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nau.edu\/psychological-sciences\/?p=1147"},"modified":"2018-12-20T13:48:15","modified_gmt":"2018-12-20T20:48:15","slug":"psy-302w-awards-from-sbs-research-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-psychological-sciences\/psy-302w-awards-from-sbs-research-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"PSY 302W Awards From SBS Research Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Fall Research Symposium was held on Friday, November 30, 2018, in Ashurst Hall.\u00a0 Over 160 posters were presented during the event, involving 341 participants and 27 faculty sponsors from throughout the college.\u00a0 The fall symposium provides a much anticipated opportunity for students from the Department of Psychological Sciences to present research they conducted during Introductory Undergraduate Research (PSY 279), Undergraduate Research (PSY 485), or Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology (PSY 302W) courses.<\/p>\n<p>A friendly competition between PSY 302W research groups was coordinated by Nora Dunbar, Ph.D.\u00a0 Groups of judges, comprised of department faculty and graduate students, evaluated posters for a number of awards, including the most interesting research question, most creative experimental method, the most creative nonexperimental method, the best statistical analysis, and others.\u00a0 In addition, awards were made for Best Overall Project.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1146\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1146\" style=\"width: 336px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-psychological-sciences\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/353\/2018\/12\/SBS_FA18-2389.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1146\" src=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-psychological-sciences\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/353\/2018\/12\/SBS_FA18-2389-489x600.jpg\" alt=\"PSY302W Best Overall Project Winners\" width=\"336\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/353\/2018\/12\/SBS_FA18-2389-489x600.jpg 489w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/353\/2018\/12\/SBS_FA18-2389-245x300.jpg 245w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/353\/2018\/12\/SBS_FA18-2389-768x942.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/353\/2018\/12\/SBS_FA18-2389-835x1024.jpg 835w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1146\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Iliana Alamillo, Cristian Rivera, Rachel Cao, &amp; Victoria DuCharme<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Best in Show \u2014 Love, Actually\u2026<br \/>\n<\/strong>Iliana Alamillo, Rachel Cao, Victoria DuCharme, &amp; Cristian Rivera<br \/>\nFaculty mentor: Nora Dunbar, Ph.D.<br \/>\nGraduate student mentor: Courtney Nobel<br \/>\nThis project explored whether marital conflict or parent-child attachment was a better predictor of anxiety towards romantic relationships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup> Place \u2014 It\u2019s not a small world after all: Culture\u2019s effect on acculturative stress and coping<br \/>\n<\/strong>Tia Burgess, Whitney Fox, Selena Hernandez, and Jillian Rollins<br \/>\nFaculty mentor: Gregory Busath, Ph.D.<br \/>\nGraduate student mentor: Olivia Triplett<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>3<sup>rd<\/sup> Place \u2014 Effects of Anonymity and Biological Sex on Altruistic Punishment<br \/>\n<\/strong>Amanda Conaway, Megan Mills, Lexi Stein, &amp;
