Carroll, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology at The Ohio State University-Lima, will be presenting a talk titled &#8220;Preparedness and Self-Validation&#8221; next week in the Psychological Sciences department. \u00a0As stated in his abstract,<\/div>\n<h5 style=\"padding-left: 60px;\" align=\"left\"><\/h5>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><!-- shortcode-block-quote -->\n<div class=\"shortcode-block-quote shortcode-block-quote--center\">\n    <div class=\"shortcode-block-quote__inner-container\">\n        <span>Feeling ready to act can automatically activate the primitive, inborn physiologic response that prepares the organism for action (e.g., fight vs. fight response, Cannon, 1929).\u00a0 Given that association, we argue that merely thinking about being prepared can lead people to a readiness to respond. This response readiness is necessary for organism to deal with all kinds of challenges. \u00a0The present research tests the claim that preparedness feelings increase confidence and, in turn, thought-reliance on attitudes irrelevant to the domain of preparation.\u00a0 <\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Dr. Carroll&#8217;s research\u00a0\u00a0focuses on the social revision of possible and core selves and the ultimate consequences of those identity revisions for mental health. Carroll earned the 2009 and 2016 Outstanding University Scholar awards for this work.\u00a0 He is a member of the elected Society of Experimental Social Psychology and has served as an editorial consultant for several journals and served as co-associate editor for a special issue of Basic and Applied Social Psychology. \u00a0His work has been featured on national and international outlets and programs, including the \u201cMindshift\u201d site of national public radio.<\/p>\n<p>Please join us for this special &#8220;brown bag&#8221; event Dec. 7 at 11:30 am in the Psychological Sciences large conference room (room 302), SAS building 3rd floor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patrick J.
