Fieldwork in Human Resources (PSY<\/span> 409)<\/h1>\n

The Human Resources Management internship course (PSY 409<\/a>) is an applied experience and requires an application process.\u00a0 Internships are expected to be 10 hours per week, although the exact time can be altered if agreed to by the organization, the intern, and the instructor of the PSY 409 course.<\/p>\n\n

Prerequisites<\/h2>\n

The prerequisites for PSY 409 are to be enrolled in the Human Resources Management Certificate program and to have completed six credits from the courses in the program (MGT 300 or 303, MGT 310, PSY 347, and PSY 348) prior to the start of the semester you take PSY 409. \u00a0Thus, if you plan on taking these 6 credits over the summer term you would be eligible to apply for the fall semester.<\/p>\n

Application Review<\/h2>\n

Once your resume is reviewed and approved, it will be forwarded to the human resources departments of the organizations with which we have agreements for internship opportunities. They will review your resume and decide whether or not to offer you an interview.<\/p>\n

Although we will do our best to facilitate internships, placement is not guaranteed and you are primarily responsible for communicating with organizations after they contact you. \u00a0You may also arrange an internship with an organization yourself, but can receive PSY 409 credit only if approved by the course instructor prior to the start of the semester.\u00a0\u00a0If an internship is unable to be arranged we can provide an alternative fieldwork experience.<\/p>\n

\n PSY 409 is a great experience for anyone pursuing Human Resources as a career. I have learned everything from hiring and terminating to onboarding and developing. I have met so many wonderful people through this internship that are willing to teach what they know about HR. It gives you the experience and expertise you need to find a job after college. \n I think that the Human Resource certification is something that has really made it clear that HR is something I want to get into. \n I had such a wonderful experience with the internship through the HR certificate program! I was able to do my internship at The Guidance Center, a community mental health facility. This HR department was a smaller one and because of this I was able to help them in many of their projects. After being there for some time I was given my own projects and had a lot of independence to complete different tasks. I think this internship opportunity really showed me what I would face in the future and would allow me a hands on experience. I learned a lot about how HR departments can be run and what kind of work certain HR departments do.
