{"id":24,"date":"2018-06-08T16:14:35","date_gmt":"2018-06-08T16:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nau.edu\/philosophy\/?page_id=24"},"modified":"2024-02-20T11:09:04","modified_gmt":"2024-02-20T18:09:04","slug":"about-overview","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-philosophy\/about-overview\/","title":{"rendered":"Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Overview<\/h1>\n<p>The NAU Department of Philosophy houses four degree programs: <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-philosophy\/undergraduate-programs\/bachelors-degrees\/bachelors-in-philosophy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-philosophy\/undergraduate-programs\/bachelors-degrees\/ba-in-philosophy-politics-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Law<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-philosophy\/undergraduate-programs\/minor-in-philosophy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minor in Philosophy<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-philosophy\/undergraduate-programs\/minor-in-classical-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minor in Classical Studies<\/a>. All of our programs can be paired with STEM or other Humanities-based majors or minors.<\/p>\n<p>For all NAU students in and outside of our programs, we offer introductory courses such as <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.nau.edu\/Courses\/course?courseId=006456&amp;term=1247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intro to Logic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.nau.edu\/Courses\/course?courseId=009538&amp;term=1247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philosophies of the World<\/a>, as well as more advanced courses like <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.nau.edu\/Courses\/course?courseId=006480&amp;term=1247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environmental Ethics<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.nau.edu\/Courses\/course?courseId=010605&amp;term=1247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Decision Theory<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.nau.edu\/Courses\/course?courseId=011588&amp;term=1247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethics and Disability<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The department also sustains a <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-philosophy\/about-overview\/faculty-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">faculty<\/a> versed in a variety of culturally relevant philosophical foci, including Feminist Philosophy, Philosophy of Race and Racism, and Latin American and Latinx Philosophy. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apaonline.org\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Philosophical Association<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/smapphilosophy.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Society for Mexican American Philosophy<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/asbh.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Society for Bioethics and Humanities<\/a> are just a few of the <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-philosophy\/professional-associations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">professional philosophical organizations<\/a> our faculty are involved with.
