About the Lumberjack Mathematics Center (LMC)<\/h1>\n

Mission:<\/strong> The Lumberjack Mathematics Center strives to be the hub for academic success in foundational math courses while preparing students for future college and career endeavors.<\/p>\n

Vision:<\/strong> The Lumberjack Mathematics Center increases student self-efficacy and academic attainment through impactful instruction and individualized student support.<\/p>\n

As a leader in technology and education, Northern Arizona University has redesigned four mathematics courses (MAT 100, MAT 108, MAT 114, and MAT 125) and introduced the Lumberjack Mathematics Center (LMC) to help students succeed in mathematics. The LMC is located on the second floor of the Student and Academic Services Building<\/a>. In addition to classrooms and our computer lab, the LMC has\u00a0quiet study rooms and comfortable seating areas for students to enjoy.<\/p>\n

We believe students learn mathematics by doing mathematics, not by listening to someone talk about or present the subject. Our course structures require students to spend lots of time working on mathematics themselves, which we believe increases their likelihood of success in their math course. The LMC follows a modified emporium model, where students meet in the classroom with an instructor and are also required to spend time in the LMC Lab working on course content.<\/p>\n\n\n \n \n \"Students\n <\/span>\n <\/span>\n <\/span>\n\n

The LMC Lab has over 300 computers and is located in the Student and Academic Services building.\u00a0 Students can use the LMC Lab’s valuable resources, including tutors (Math Jacks) and instructors who are always available, free 45 minute one-on-one tutoring appointments with our highly qualified Math Jacks, and a testing room where students can take proctored exams early if needed.<\/p>\n
