We award a number of scholarships to outstanding students enrolled in or entering one of our undergraduate or graduate programs.<\/p>\n

The Fran Allegretto Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics Accordion Closed<\/span><\/h4>\n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/a>\n

Fran Allegretto grew up in Schenectady, NY and attended the University of Buffalo before starting a family. She graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 1974 with a B.S. in Education. She taught high school mathematics in the Phoenix, AZ area for ten years and then attended Northern Arizona University where she earned an M.S. in Mathematics in 1987. She was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Ferris State University from 1988-2010 where she was also active in the Ferris Faculty Association and the Mathematics Education Committee. Fran had a passion for knowledge and was as devoted to her students as she was to excellence. Upon her retirement Fran established the John Ladd Memorial Mathematics Scholarship at Ferris and funded it annually for ten years. Fran stayed connected to many of her colleagues and continued to be active in the community by supporting local libraries and charities. The Fran Allegretto Memorial Mathematics Scholarship is established to honor Fran’s commitment to education and to continue her tradition of supporting deserving Mathematics students.<\/span><\/p>\n
Eligibility and selection criteria:<\/p>\n

Mathematics major with preference for students majoring in mathematics education or who plan to pursue a career in education<\/span><\/li>\n
Full-time Sophomore, Junior, or Senior<\/li>\n
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater at the time of application<\/li>\n
The application shall include a short, written statement no longer than one double spaced page, detailing the applicant’s post-graduate plans. The applicant may also include any education-related work or volunteer experience that they may have.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The Joanna Wheaton Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Data Science Accordion Closed<\/span><\/h4>\n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/a>\n

Joanna Wheaton was the first Data Science major graduate from NAU, a Flagstaff community builder, and a selfless activist. Through her studies of Political Science, Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Studies, Data Science, Math, and Economics, Joanna devoted herself to bringing her vision of a better world to light. Her passing in 2021 was a loss to the Flagstaff community and all who knew her, but she left a legacy of service, and the desire to create a more loving, just society.<\/p>\n
