Flagstaff is situated at about 7000′ near the southwestern edge of the Colorado Plateau, within the world’s largest contiguous expanse of ponderosa pine forest. Nearby points of interest include historic downtown Flagstaff, Lowell Observatory, Museum of Northern Arizona, San Francisco Volcanic Field, Grand Canyon National Park, several National Monuments, and much more. With luck the aspen trees on the mountain may be in full colors at the time of the conference.<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/h3>\nTrip 1:\u00a0Drinking in the Flagstaff Landscape<\/strong>
\nLearn about the history and growth of the craft and small production alcohol facilities in Flagstaff including brewing and distilling. Includes tasting and tours at Mother Road Brewing Tap Room and Drinking Horn Meadery. Closed-toed shoes required; must be 21 years of age. 12:30-3:30pm – $20 – [Dawn Hawley]
\nFlagstaff’s Brew related Landscape (pdf)<\/a><\/p>\nTrip 2: Picture Canyon<\/a> & Buffalo Park<\/a> Trails<\/strong>
\nCome explore two unique sites in the Flagstaff area. On this half-day outing we will take in sweeping views of the San Francisco Peaks on a 2-mile loop through Buffalo Park on McMillan Mesa\u2014an ancient lava flow and popular open space\u2014before heading to Picture Canyon. Picture Canyon is an important natural and cultural site, boasting Northern Sinagua petroglyphs as well as an important riparian habitat. All trails are well-maintained but closed-toed shoes are highly recommended; check the Flagstaff forecast and dress for variable weather. Lunch is not provided so please bring water and a snack. 9am-appox. 1pm – $10 – [Frank Vernon]<\/p>\nTrip 3: San Francisco Peaks Life Zones with Skyride<\/a><\/strong>
\nOn this half day field trip, we will travel a 4500′ elevational gradient from the ponderosa pine forests surrounding Flagstaff to alpine tundra at the top of the San Francisco Peaks. Don’t miss out on this chance to experience some local fall color and dramatic views of Northern Arizona. Box lunch (notify field trip guides of food restrictions) and scenic Snowbowl Skyride chairlift ride included. Appropriate clothing for potentially cool conditions above 11,000′ required. 9am – approx. 2pm – $35 – [Erik Schiefer<\/a> and Amanda Stan]<\/p>\nTrip 4: Grand Canyon National Park
