How to create and sustain successful indigenous language immersion programs.<\/strong><\/p>\n
A 4-day, hands-on, how-to workshop for creating a new language immersion program or re-energizing an existing immersion program by converting weaknesses into strengths.<\/p>\n

those wanting to start a language immersion school or program<\/li>\n
those wanting to improve the academic achievement of American Indian students<\/li>\n

About the Presenter:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Founder and former Director of Puente de Hozho Tri-lingual School, Dr. Michael Fillerup guides you through his 10-step process for creating and sustaining an indigenous language immersion program for the ages.<\/p>\n
Additionally, you will learn:<\/strong><\/p>\n

how to develop the five essential elements of a language immersion program<\/li>\n
how to maximize the 4 P’s – promotion, publicity, public relations, and parent participation<\/li>\n
the do’s and don’ts of a language immersion program<\/li>\n
potential obstacles and how to overcome them<\/li>\n
troubleshooting and practical advice<\/li>\n
how to light two candles with one flame (i.e., revitalizing the indigenous language while boosting student achievement)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

How to design an indigenous knowledge-focused curriculum<\/strong><\/p>\n
To enroll in the Level 2 workshop, one must have completed the Level 1 workshop in a previous year. The two workshops run concurrently and one cannot attend both in the same year.<\/p>\n
In this 4-day workshop, Language Advocate Jennie DeGroat demonstrates how to collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and tribal leaders to develop a language curriculum derived from the knowledge, culture, and values of the community. Participants will focus on both the curriculum process and product. This is the follow-up workshop to “How to Create and Sustain Successful Indigenous Language Immersion Programs”.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
