Specialization in bilingual and multicultural education is very applicable to meeting the needs of students from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>This program meets a growing need for highly qualified ESL and bilingual teachers\u00a0in Arizona, and was designed to meet the requirements of the Arizona Department of Education for an ESL endorsement which went\u00a0into effect\u00a0in 1984.<\/p>\n<p>We offer the following Bilingual and Multicultural degrees, certificates, and endorsements:<\/p>\n<h3>Degrees<\/h3>\n<p>Master of Education in Bilingual and Multicultural Education\u00a0with two emphases:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Bilingual and Multicultural Education - Bilingual, Master of Education\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-educational-specialties\/med-bme\/\">Bilingual and Multicultural Education &#8211; Bilingual Emphasis, Master of Education<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Bilingual and Multicultural Education - ESL, Master of Education\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-educational-specialties\/med-bme\/\">Bilingual and Multicultural Education &#8211; ESL Emphasis, Master of Education<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Certificates<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"English as a Second Language, Undergraduate Certificate\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-educational-specialties\/esl-undergrad-certificate\/\">English as a Second Language, Undergraduate Certificate<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"English as a Second Language, Graduate Certificate\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-educational-specialties\/esl-graduate-certificate\/\">English as a Second Language, Graduate Certificate<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Endorsements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"ESL Emphasis\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-educational-specialties\/esl-endorsement\/\">English as a Second Language Endorsement &#8211; Arizona Department of Education, Endorsement<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Bilingual Endorsement\u00a0\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-educational-specialties\/bilingual-endorsement\/\">Bilingual Endorsement \u2013 Arizona Department of Education, Endorsement<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Admission information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Have completed a bachelor&#8217;s degree from an accredited institution<\/li>\n<li>Be admitted to the university\u2019s Office of Graduate and Professional Studies<\/li>\n<li>Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) in your undergraduate program of study (some programs will also review your first 9 hours of graduate coursework to verify the 3.0 grade point average in lieu of an overall 3.0 in your undergraduate degree)<\/li>\n<li>Complete a program of studies form with one of our graduate advisers and submit it to our department office<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate at least intermediate proficiency in a second language by receiving a passing score on the Spanish proficiency examination or Navajo oral proficiency examination.<\/li>\n<li>If you are a member of a Native American tribe other than Navajo, you may have tribal officials provide a letter documenting your proficiency in your particular language.
