Graduate assistantships provide students with an opportunity to assist faculty in research and teaching responsibilities, and, therefore, to learn more about academic, teaching, and research work.<\/p>\n<p>You must apply for a graduate assistantship during the spring admissions cycle to be considered for the following academic year. Students who receive these awards are assigned to individual faculty members based on the recommendation of the Graduate Program Director. These assistantships include funds for a stipend and a tuition waiver. In such cases, the individual faculty member is responsible for awarding GAs and determining the amount of the stipend. Students who receive graduate assistantships provided to faculty members through external grants are typically employed to perform research or other work specified in the grant.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- shortcode-accordion -->\n<div class=\"shortcode-accordion shortcode-accordion--closed\" style=\"position: relative;\" >\n        <a class=\"shortcode-accordion__trigger\" data-header=\"Non-departmental_0\" href=\"#\">\n      <div class=\"shortcode-accordion__header\">\n          <h4>Non-departmental <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Accordion Closed<\/span><\/h4>\n          <span class=\"shortcode-accordion__header__arrow\"><\/span>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/a>\n    <div class=\"shortcode-accordion__body\">\n        <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body>\n<p>The Office of Graduate and Professional Studies regularly posts advertisements for university-wide assistantships that provide valuable graduate-level experiences across campus. These university-wide opportunities as well as additional information specific to GAs are posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/graduate-college\/graduate-assistantships-tuition-waivers\/\">NAU&rsquo;s Office of Graduate and Professional Studies website<\/a>.<\/p><\/body><\/html>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h3>Tuition waivers<\/h3>\n<p>Tuition waivers are awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need. There are a limited number of graduate in-state tuition waivers available for Arizona residents. These scholarships are awarded by the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies upon the recommendation of the department. Also, there are a limited number of graduate tuition waivers available for nonresidents. These waivers cover only the nonresident portion of tuition.<\/p>\n<p>Students who are awarded a tuition waiver must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>enroll as a full-time student (9 credit hours)<\/li>\n<li>maintain a grade point average of 3.0<\/li>\n<li>earn no grades of C or below<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are interested in applying for a tuition waiver, you should apply during the spring admissions cycle to be considered for the following academic year.
