This multivalent concept is rooted in Qur\u2019anic verses and Hadith passages, and prominent in Islamic philosophy, literature, and thought. A richly generative term, al barzakh provides a framework to reflect back on former prisoner experiences in the detention camps in the U.S.<a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-comparative-cultural-studies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/333\/IMG_6166.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-uncropped-small wp-image-1546 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-comparative-cultural-studies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/333\/IMG_6166-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"CCS faculty Diana Coleman\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/333\/IMG_6166-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/333\/IMG_6166-450x600.jpg 450w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/333\/IMG_6166.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a> military prison at Guant\u00e1namo Bay. It also assists in analyzing the experiences of Muslims living as racialized and minoritized subjects in Western spaces in the decades since 11 September 2001.
