The Art Museums feature the Margaret Hettel Weiss Museum with a permanent collection containing historical artifacts and art and the Clara M. Lovett Museum which exhibits contemporary works. As cultural leaders in northern Arizona, the Art Museums emphasize the diversity of voices found in both the past and present and as part of a teaching institution, serve our local communities through exhibitions, events, and educational programs. Interns enrich our museums through their enthusiasm and new perspectives on how we fulfill our mission and develop impactful relationships in the museums, on campus, and with our community. We recognize our community is enriched through collaboration and inclusion and encourage students of all races, cultures, ethnicities, backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender expressions to apply for internship opportunities in the Art Museums.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Internship Announcement:<\/strong>\u00a0 <strong>Exhibit Design, Summer 2024\/Fall 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose and Goals: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The NAU Art Museums seeks an intern to assist in planning, designing, and installing exhibitions from conceptualization to implementation. In addition, this position is responsible for tracking and implementing aspects of the exhibit design process. The Exhibit Design intern reports to the Museum SPC, SR, and is part of the Curatorial and Collections team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours and Compensation: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The internship is unpaid, but the student may earn credit hours towards their degree through their home department. The NAU Art Museums will work with interns to create a schedule that fits the needs of both the student and the department. The internship is flexible but requires a commitment to complete projects in a timely manner and fulfill the required work hours based on credit hours registered for.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Designs exhibit layouts for permanent displays with a clear, coherent, and unified visual presentation<\/li>\n<li>Produces measured drawings and instructions for exhibit fabrication, mount production, and installation<\/li>\n<li>Collaborates with other interns on the project team and Museum SPC, SR, and may also work with outside vendors, NAU Facilities Services, faculty, and other professionals.<\/li>\n<li>Works with other team members to integrate design and content into a cohesive exhibit for museum guests.<\/li>\n<li>Prepares, maintains, and updates two-dimensional drawings and three-dimensional representations.<\/li>\n<li>Prepares drawings for curatorial, conservation, and design review and participates in Design Review Meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Assists with other duties and projects as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current enrollment in an undergraduate program, preferably with a focus in; art history, art education, digital humanities, museum studies, arts management, studio arts, or marketing.<\/li>\n<li>Basic computer skills: Microsoft &#8211; Word, Excel, Google &#8211; Docs, Sheets. Knowledge or experience using WordPress, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom (or similar applications) is a plus. Graphic design experience\/skill a plus.<\/li>\n<li>Effective communication skills &#8211; adaptable to various audiences<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and AutoCAD. Knowledge of SketchUp (or similar CAD app) is a plus.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to hand-render and generate scaled drawings.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to organize tasks and ensure timely completion of projects with strong attention to detail.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated professional work ethic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ready to Apply?
