The Art Museums feature the Margaret Hettel Weiss Museum with a permanent collection containing historical artifacts and art and the Clara M. Lovett Museum which exhibits contemporary works. As cultural leaders in northern Arizona, the Art Museums emphasize the diversity of voices found in both the past and present and as part of a teaching institution, serve our local communities through exhibitions, events, and educational programs. Interns enrich our museums through their enthusiasm and new perspectives on how we fulfill our mission and develop impactful relationships in the museums, on campus, and with our community. We recognize our community is enriched through collaboration and inclusion and encourage students of all races, cultures, ethnicities, backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender expressions to apply for internship opportunities in the Art Museums.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Internship Announcement: <\/strong><strong>Collections Management \u2013 Summer 2024\/ Fall 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Collections Management Intern will work under the supervision of the senior curator and may consult with a faculty mentor.<\/p>\n<p>The internship will allow the student to develop practical skills in a museum environment and, specifically, to learn how collections professionals document, handle, and manage collections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours and Compensation: <\/strong>The internship is unpaid, but the student may earn credit hours towards their degree through their home department. The NAU Art Museums will work with interns to create a schedule that fits the needs of both the student and the department. The internship is flexible but requires a commitment to complete projects in a timely manner and fulfill the required work hours based on credit hours registered for.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 credit hour per semester (45 hours per semester. 3 hours per week)<\/li>\n<li>2 credit hours per semester (90 hours per semester. 6 hours per week)<\/li>\n<li>3 credit hours per semester (135 hours per semester. 9 hours per week)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interns contribute to the university, museums, and community while also gaining skills and building a record of work in a career field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities: <\/strong>The responsibilities for this internship opportunity include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with registrar duties associated with incoming and outgoing exhibition objects.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain and enhance paper and electronic collections records and files.<\/li>\n<li>Database entry and assist with digitizing physical records, slides and\/or photographs and conversion and\/or linking of old digital records to the new collections management database system.<\/li>\n<li>Development of curatorial files.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enrolled as an undergraduate in a Liberal Arts, Arts Education, Art History, or Museum Studies program.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to reliably maintain schedule and credit hour commitment.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written, oral communication, research and organizational skills and a strong work ethic.<\/li>\n<li>General knowledge of office technology and familiarity with a range of computer programs, including the Microsoft Office suite, databases, and file format conversion software preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Basic understanding of collection management practices and procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Physical Requirements. This internship requires a moderate level of physical activity. The intern may be physically active for extended periods, lift and carry a maximum of 45 pounds, and navigate step-stools and ladders. Most work will be performed at a desk and will require extended periods of sitting with short breaks to be permitted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong>: NAU Art Museums Mountain Campus.
