The special issue on Italo Calvino marks the centenary of his birth.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/escholarship.org\/uc\/item\/8gz502ct\"><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Read<\/span> <\/a><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">the article.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Abstract: &#8220;Quickness&#8221;, the second lecture collected in\u00a0<em>Six Memos for the New Millenium,\u00a0<\/em>is an essential value linking the old and new millennium.\u00a0 In this essay, I examine how &#8220;quickness&#8221; is deployed in Italo Calvino\u2019s celebrated Marcolvaldo stories, giving special attention to the primary elements of quickness: enchantment and attachment.
