The Art Museums feature the Marguerite Hettel Weiss Museum, with a permanent collection containing historical artifacts and art, and the Clara M. Lovett Museum, which exhibits contemporary works. As cultural leaders in northern Arizona, the Art Museums emphasize the diversity of voices found in both the past and present and, as part of a teaching institution, serve our local communities through exhibitions, events, and educational programs. Interns enrich our museums through their enthusiasm and new perspectives on how we fulfill our mission and develop impactful relationships in the museums, on campus, and with our community. We recognize that our community is enriched through collaboration and inclusion and encourage students of all races, cultures, ethnicities, backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender expressions to apply for internship opportunities in the Art Museums.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unpaid part-time internship opportunities (135 hours during 16-week semesters, equivalent to 3 credit hours).<\/li>\n<li>Students may earn credit hours for their degree through their major or minor department.<\/li>\n<li>Internships are only available during fall and spring semesters.<\/li>\n<li>Internships are available to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a major, minor, or focus in one of the following fields: art history, art education, anthropology, museum studies, comparative cultural studies, public humanities, visual communications, arts and cultural management, studio arts, or marketing.<\/li>\n<li>Schedules are flexible to meet the needs of the student and the department but require a minimum of 9 hours per week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Program Description:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Digital Outreach Intern will support the outreach, education, and marketing missions of the Art Museums through the promotion of the museums in support of their mission, exhibitions, events, and programs. The Intern will serve as an integral part of the Museum Outreach Team under the supervision of the Senior Curator and\/or Museum Specialist. Student interns collaborate and connect with internal and external partners to provide educational opportunities for the communities we serve through the development of guides, live and virtual gallery exploration experiences, and reflective art and object-focused curricula, as well as through meaningful dialogue with community members, educators, and students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>May assist with the design of outreach materials for wide dissemination (print, video, audio, digital and social media) for a diverse audience.<\/li>\n<li>May participate in daily marketing activities.<\/li>\n<li>Develop strategies for social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>May assist in content creation and scheduling of digital media.<\/li>\n<li>May assist in digital\/social media hit measurement and analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Complete all additional requirements determined by the department for which you will receive internship credit (Comparative Cultural Studies, Anthropology, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current enrollment in an undergraduate program with a major, minor, or focus in one of the following fields: art history, art education, anthropology, comparative cultural studies, museum studies, public humanities, visual communications, arts and cultural management, studio arts, or marketing.<\/li>\n<li>Computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office and Excel and Google Docs and Sheets. Knowledge or experience using Trello, WordPress, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom (or similar applications), as well as graphic design platforms such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) is preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Effective oral, written, and verbal communication skills that are adaptable for various audiences.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with academic research.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in organization, project management, and strong attention to detail.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with a wide array of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube and ability to obtain an account for these platforms if required for posting and communicating with followers of museum accounts.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.<\/li>\n<li>A professional work ethic and a positive attitude.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application Process:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submit the following documents to Ty Miller, Senior Curator, NAU Art Museums, via email at <a href=\"mailto:ty.miller@nau.edu\">ty.miller@nau.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Please include all of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cover letter describing your interest in the internship, reasons for wanting to work at the Art Museum, desired learning outcomes for the internship, and a summary of your qualifications.<\/li>\n<li>Sample of your work: this may be a writing sample from a research paper, copy from a marketing project, or graphic design portfolio.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once we receive your internship packet, we will send you an email with an application and a request for hours availability.
