{"id":25,"date":"2018-08-21T06:29:55","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T13:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vendor.hub.wp.nau.edu\/ais\/programs\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T21:31:27","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T21:31:27","slug":"programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/department-applied-indigenous-studies\/programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Community programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Community programs<\/h1>\n<h2>SBS student-to-student connections: shadowing program<\/h2>\n<p>This program pairs Native American high school students with a current social and behavioral sciences student for a day.<\/p>\n<p>High school students will shadow their university mentor throughout the day and:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>attend their classes<\/li>\n<li>participate in the same activities<\/li>\n<li>gather with the participants and mentors as well as the three traditional knowledge scholars from the resident elders program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This experience provides high school students with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the opportunity to gain insight into what it\u2019s like to go to Northern Arizona University from a real student\u2019s point of view<\/li>\n<li>the chance to get excited about attending college<\/li>\n<li>the chance to acquire information about how to successfully apply to the university, financial aid, and student support services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Becoming a mentor<\/h2>\n<p>We need you to mentor a student for a day.
