Student Outreach and Support (SOS)
NAU SOS mission
Many students unexpectedly face difficult times during college, including both personal and/or academic challenges, which can interfere with their college success. Whether it is something as simple as not being able to find one of your classes to something more personal like the loss of a loved one, NAU SOS is here to help. We are knowledgeable about the campus and community resources that can assist, and we are happy to listen to your experiences and help you understand your options and next-steps. This can include information about NAU policies and services, as well as general problem solving strategies, that may aid your situation. We strive for a culture of caring on campus, and that starts with you!
NAU SOS functions as a student assistance program and is housed within the Office of the Dean of Students. As we work with Northern Arizona University students, staff, faculty, and parents, some of the situations we may provide connections to and resources for include:
- Hospitalization
- Medical emergencies or long-term illness
- Death of a family member
- Mental health concerns
- Chronic conditions
- Natural disasters – fire, flood, etc.
