Alumni Spotlight: Suzette Jaggars

Posted by hipaa on January 28, 2021

The CSTL is proud to work with the next generation of Science and Math educators, helping them along their path in becoming highly qualified teachers who inspire students every day. We checked in with one of our alumni to see what she is doing after her time with the Center at NAU.

Meet Suzette Jaggars.

What are you up to nowadays Suzette?

I am teaching biology, marine science, and advising student council at Prescott High School. I am also the JV boys soccer coach.

So cool! What’s one thing you learned at NAU that you’ve applied in your current position?

Discourse and collaboration! It is hard at the moment for students to work together during distance learning, but I have taken what I learned from the NAUTeach program and adapted it to work with online learning. Casual conversation at the beginning of class – asking the students about their day, their favorite, song, what they did over the weekend – creates such a calm and welcoming atmosphere.

Could you share one fond memory or experience from your time with the CSTL or NAU?

I will never forget my wonderful professors and how they kept us engaged during class! I find myself getting excited about things I am teaching and I remember the excitement my professors had when teaching myself and my classmates. I always hope that my students gain a fondness of learning in the classes I teach.

Amazing, thank you Suzette! All of us at the CSTL wish you the best of luck with your teaching position (and to your JV boys soccer team!).
