Admissions<\/h1>\n
Application for admission is accomplished in two separate stages: application to the NAU Office of Graduate and Professional Studies (OGPS) and<\/u> application through the Central Application System (CSDCAS).<\/p>\n

Who gets in?<\/h2>\n
The full-time track and summer track cohort sizes range from 30-40 students.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0 personal essay<\/a> that addresses the prompt \u201cWhat are your reasons for pursuing a Master\u2019s degree in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology and how does Northern Arizona University\u2019s graduate program align with your personal and professional interests?\u201d<\/li>\n
Official transcripts <\/a>from all colleges and universities attended. This includes transcripts from any foreign institution taken as part of a study abroad program.\n

3\u00a0letters of recommendation.<\/a> Please note: requests for letters from CSD faculty should take place no later than Oct. 1<\/strong> to allow sufficient time for letter development.\n

Full-time track applicants:<\/u> at least two letters from CSD faculty are strongly recommended for students applying to the Full-time track.<\/li>\n
Full-time leveler track applicants:<\/u> at least two letters from academic faculty are strongly recommended for students applying to the Leveler track.<\/li>\n
Summer track applicants:<\/u> at least one letter from an SLP supervisor or other employer should be included for students applying to the Summer track.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

August 1: <\/strong>CSDCAS applications open; NAU OGPS applications open.<\/li>\n
February 1:<\/strong> Application deadline. CSDCAS application must be marked “Complete” by this date and “Verified” by February 15th.\n
\n
Applicants can view the status of all of their CSDCAS applications on the ‘Check Status’ tab at the top right of the application portal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
Early February to Mid-March<\/strong>: Invitations sent.<\/li>\n
April 15<\/strong>: Deadline to accept offer; waitlist applicants contacted.<\/li>\n
Early June<\/strong>: Summer track students begin courses on Flagstaff or Yuma campus.<\/li>\n
Late August<\/strong>: Full-time and Leveler students begin courses on Flagstaff campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Foundational and Prerequisite Course Requirements<\/h3>\n
The\u00a0ASHA 2020 Standards (IV-A)<\/a>\u00a0require that applicants for the Certificate of Clinical Competence must have demonstrated knowledge of the biological sciences, physical sciences, statistics, and the social\/behavioral sciences. At the time of program admission, you must have at least one 3-credit course in each of the following areas:<\/p>\n
\n
Biological Sciences (human or animal sciences for Biology majors, e.g., biology, human anatomy & physiology, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, human genetics, and veterinary science). The introductory course for Biology majors (BIO 181 in Arizona universities) will meet this requirement. Lab not required.<\/li>\n
Physical Sciences (physics or chemistry). Lab not required. No longer allowed: Astronomy, archaeology, forestry, geology, earth and environmental science.<\/li>\n
Social\/Behavioral Sciences (psychology, sociology, anthropology or public health).<\/li>\n
Statistics (course with \u201cstatistics\u201d in the title). Not allowed: Research methodology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Language<\/li>\n
Language Development in Children<\/li>\n
Speech Science<\/li>\n
Hearing Science<\/li>\n
Neurological Foundations of Speech, Language and Hearing (If not previously taken, this course will be integrated into your graduate program of study.)<\/li>\n
Survey of Audiology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The title of an equivalent course should contain the same key word(s) as those in the descriptive titles above.<\/p>\n
GPA<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Applicants generally should have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0. Grades of \u00a0\u201cC\u201d or below in prerequisite courses are not competitive and you may want to re-take those courses.<\/p>\n
Registering for Prerequisite Courses at NAU<\/h3>\n
Refer to the Registrar\u2019s web page<\/a> for calendars and course schedules by semester. You may apply for admission to NAU as either a degree-seeking or a non-degree-seeking student at either the undergraduate<\/a> or graduate<\/a> level. Note: \u201cnon-degree-seeking\u201d status may limit your financial aid opportunities and how many classes you can take each semester; refer to the admissions office or your financial aid officer for specific restrictions related to a non-degree-seeking status.<\/p>\n
