Opportunities exist for leadership development and future employment or detail.<br \/>\n<strong>Candidates should have a passion for:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Labor-intensive fieldwork in demanding environmental conditions.<br \/>\n\u2022 Combining ecosystem and wildlife restoration under the broader goal of wildfire prevention.<br \/>\n\u2022 Personal and professional development.<br \/>\n\u2022 Increasing diversity and inclusion in the fire practitioner community.<br \/>\n<strong>Organization Description:<\/strong><br \/>\nThis position reports to two organizations. Daily operations will be overseen by the module leader on-site, an employee of Center for Environmental Management Military Lands (CEMML). Career development plans, training strategies, and administrative\/human relations support will be provided by the Forest Stewards Guild. The WSM will assist Air Force installations and Inter-Agency partners by providing staffing and support to the Air Force Wildland Fire Branch (AFWFB).<br \/>\n<!--more--><strong>Position Description:<\/strong><br \/>\nSuccessful candidates will have experience in wildland fire or prescribed fire operations, with a focus on chainsaw skills, effective communication, and a commitment to working with diverse populations. They will:<br \/>\n\u2022 Utilize chainsaws and heavy equipment for fuels reduction, hazard tree mitigation (spruce beetle infested stands) and wildfire prevention.<br \/>\n\u2022 Engage in all aspects of prescribed fire including fireline construction, ignition, holding, mop-up, rehabilitation, and monitoring.<br \/>\n\u2022 Support initial attack on wildfire suppression efforts.<br \/>\n\u2022 Operate and maintain motor vehicles, ATVs\/UTVs, fire engines and small engines.<br \/>\n\u2022 May work in cold, rainy, and variable weather conditions, in remote locations, and on difficult or hazardous terrain and \/ or in other physically demanding environments. This includes potential risk for unexploded ordinance and other related hazards.<br \/>\n\u2022 Demonstrate a strong work ethic, including a commitment to principles of Duty, Integrity and Respect.<br \/>\n\u2022 Candidates demonstrating proficiency and growth throughout their nine month term will be strongly considered for future employment or details with the Gravitas Peak Wildland Fire Module. The Module prepares young firefighters for competitive employment with the<br \/>\n<strong>Compensation and Timeline:<\/strong><br \/>\nPay: $22\/hr. Paid leave and paid holiday benefits are provided. Employer-sponsored health and dental care coverage is available after 30 days of continuous employment. Housing is not provided.
