This award aims to support interdisciplinary collaboration and research to improve environmental sustainability and the health, well-being, and vitality of global communities and cultural systems. Awards are typically $5,000 but may exceed that based on the proposed project&#8217;s merit, goals, and scope of community impact. This year, to enhance our impact, we are seeking proposals budgeted $5,000 &#8211; $7,000, to award to one or more teams depending on available funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2025 applications will be accepted through May 15, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"requirements\">Project proposal requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To be considered for funding, one or more faculty members may submit a project proposal, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a substantive and verifiable community impact<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an interdisciplinary collaboration that includes faculty or students from the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences in coordination with faculty and students from the Steve Sanghi College of Engineering, and\/or the College of the Environment, Forestry, and Natural Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>participation of one or more undergraduate or graduate students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposal should address how the project effectively improves any two of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>health and well-being of local and\/or global communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vitality of community or cultural systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>environmental sustainability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Preference will be given to proposals for projects that are interdisciplinary and cross-departmental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team members for the selected projects will be designated Maxwell-Lutz fellows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"apply\">How to apply<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Submit your proposal with the following information in our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/qualtrics.nau.edu\/jfe\/form\/SV_eX0KtVnFtfLaaF0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online application form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project information<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Title<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Description (300 words or less)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty leader(s) and contact information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Top three goals of the project and how success will be measured<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the project is standalone, describe its intended benefit for the intended community (200 words or less)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the project is intended to support another ongoing project or thesis, describe the project and how funds would make a significant difference to the success of the parent project and benefit the intended community (200 words or less)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student information<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Role of students in the project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Name, major, college, NAU user ID, and class year (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student) of students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the project supplements another project or thesis, the title of the project or thesis and the name of the principals and departments involved<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Budget information<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Budget outline for the project, the total amount requested, justification, and a breakdown by categories.
