{"id":8216,"date":"2024-07-02T21:12:21","date_gmt":"2024-07-02T21:12:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nau.edu\/college-health-human-services\/?p=8216"},"modified":"2024-07-02T21:12:03","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T21:12:03","slug":"indigenous-youth-health-camp-az-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/college-health-human-services\/news\/indigenous-youth-health-camp-az-family\/","title":{"rendered":"Indigenous Youth Health Camp | AZ Family"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Northern Arizona University (NAU) collaborated with the&nbsp;Colorado Plateau Center for Health Professions and the regional Arizona Health Education Center (AHEC) to host an interactive Indigenous youth health camp on&nbsp;June 24. Native Americans are underrepresented in the healthcare workforce. This camp&nbsp;aims to address these disparities in healthcare through an engaging educational experience, inspiring students to explore future health careers in Arizona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eighteen&nbsp;high school students interested in health careers from the Navajo&nbsp;and Hopi Reservations&nbsp;traveled to the NAU Flagstaff campus for an overnight camp. This experience included hands-on activities from different NAU health programs including physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and nursing. Students had the chance to utilize ultrasound technology, practice with adaptive equipment, and tour the College of Nursing Simulation Lab.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a
