Meet the 2026 Outstanding Graduate Student<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ana Gregori, from the MPH Health promotion program, has been named the 2026 CHHS Outstanding Graduate Student. Read on to learn more about Ana\u2019s time in the MPH program, and what inspired her passion for public health.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What inspired you to pursue public health?<\/strong> 
Working in healthcare prior to coming to NAU showed me how much I value working directly with people, but it also opened my eyes to a bigger picture of health. I was inspired to pursue public health because it focuses on improving systems and addressing those underlying factors that make a lasting difference in people\u2019s lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why did you choose the NAU MPH program?<\/strong> 
I chose the NAU MPH program because I wanted a place where I could really dive deeper into what is public health, not just healthcare. I looked at a few programs before, but NAU stood out because it focuses on all the different pieces of public health, community work, policy and program development and gives students the opportunity to actually get involved and learn by doing. The NAU MPH program felt like it would challenge me and help me grow academically the most, which it truly has so far. <\/p>\n\n\n

You\u2019ve been involved in a wide range of community service and university activities, such as your work with the Boys and Girls Club Native Services and Flagstaff Birth Fund. How have these experiences influenced your career goals?<\/strong> 
My involvement in different volunteer services and research opportunities has really shown me how diverse public health work can be. I came into the program thinking I knew exactly what I wanted to do post-graduation, but these experiences have encouraged me to explore more broadly and to stay open as I continue to attempt to solidify my career goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you hope to make an impact in the field of public health?<\/strong> 
Ultimately, I would love to make an impact by working to improve community health, while also supporting individuals directly. Helping even one person can have that meaningful ripple effect that makes everyone feel good, and that\u2019s what continues to motivate my work in public health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does it mean to you to be named the CHHS Distinguished Graduate Student?<\/strong> 
I am very honored. Being named the CHHS Distinguished Graduate Student feels like a recognition for all the effort I\u2019ve put in, and it\u2019s such an amazing way to end my graduate career. This award truly reflects the dedication it takes to succeed in graduate school, and it\u2019s a meaningful way to celebrate not just my own effort, but the hard work of all CHHS students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
