When did you first learn about Athletic Training, and what interested you in the field?

I learned about Athletic Training during high school as I was on the sports medicine team. I loved being able to travel with football and baseball and learn more about ATs roles in healthcare.

What has been your favorite part of your Athletic Training journey so far?

It has been so incredible being able to apply my skills learned through school into a real world setting each day at my clinical site, Sunrise Mountain High School!

How do you hope to make an impact as an Athletic Trainer?

I want athletes to know that we aren’t just here to provide water and tape ankles, we are a jack of all trades from emerging care to injury prevention and post injury rehabilitation. I think we deserve more recognition in our field, and I hope to be a voice for all ATs out there!

Is there a particular setting or patient population you’re especially passionate about working with (e.g., high school sports, collegiate athletics, rehab clinic, etc.)?

While I love working in the high school setting, I hope to gain some experience in the collegiate setting for my second year as an MSAT student.

What’s a fun or memorable moment from your clinical experience so far?

My most memorable moment from my time at Sunrise Mountain High School would definitely be getting to watch our seniors play during senior night. They poured their hearts out on the field and after the game they came to the training room to thank us for helping them this season, it was so special!

What skills have you developed during your program that you’re most proud of?

I am probably most proud of my ability to remain calm in emergent situations. Some scenarios can be really scary, not only for the athletes but for us as well. I believe being able to be that sense of calm for the athlete goes a long way.

What advice do you have for someone just starting in the Athletic Training program?

Hang in there! It is such a wild ride, but all the memories made along the way are SO worth it!
