English Major and Lumberjack Editor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My name is Katie Squires, and this is a day in the life of an English major and Lumberjack Newspaper editor. Come along with me to see all the reading and writing I do on a Monday!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7:30 a.m. \u2014 I wake up, get dressed, and make breakfast. Usually, I have some oatmeal and a cup of tea. I like to have a decent amount of time in the morning in case I\u2019m tired and moving slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9:25 a.m. \u2014 I walk to the bus stop and head to the Communications building. Once I get there, my co-editor and I discuss pitches for the week and decide which ones we want to go forward with before the EdBoard meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10:20 a.m. \u2014 I meet with all of the editors of the Lumberjack to give updates on stories and pitch ideas for the upcoming week. We go over events, planning, and deadlines. Sometimes there are donuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11:30 a.m. \u2014 After the editor meeting, my co-editor and I meet with our writers. We assign them stories, inform them of important dates, and discuss edits that they need to be reminded of. Usually, the section meeting doesn\u2019t last the full 50 minutes, so I can grab some food before my first class of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12:45 p.m. \u2014 My first class is World Literature. Typically in this class, we discuss the reading and do group activities analyzing texts. We\u2019ve read poems, short stories, a graphic novel, and now we are reading a play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2:20 p.m. \u2014 My last class of the day is Basic Reporting. In this class, my professor teaches us interview techniques, writing skills, and journalism ethics. Afterwards, I take the bus back home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 p.m. \u2014 Once I get home, I do a quiz for my Literary Criticism class and do the reading for World Literature. Because opinion articles for the newspaper typically get published towards the end of the week, on Mondays I don\u2019t have any editing to do. Sometimes if a story gets pushed back, I publish it on Monday which takes about twenty minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6:30 p.m. \u2014 I eat dinner and take a little break to relax a little bit. Lately, I have been watching Freaks and Geeks while I eat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

7:30 p.m. \u2014 If I have more homework I need to get done, I finish it after dinner. Typically before bed I write in my journal and plan everything I need to do the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10:30 p.m. \u2014 I go to sleep and get rested for tomorrow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
