Religious Observances Calendar

This calendar is designed to serve as a resource for students, faculty and staff seeking awareness and support around religious observances, as well as to assist with planning for the academic year. Students, faculty and staff may request for time off for any of these religious holidays. While this list is not comprehensive, the Center for Inclusive Excellence and Access will continue to update the calendar to ensure we are recognizing all religious observances and showing respect and civility for each other’s faith practices.

Native American and Indigenous Observances

Native American and Indigenous Peoples regard important observances and practices as a “way of life” that transcends the idea of “religion”; for example, some cultural and spiritual observances align with various astronomical phenomena, which may or may not align with the calendar. Because of the diversity that exists amongst Native American Tribes and Indigenous Peoples (including the 90+ Tribal Nations at NAU, 22 federally recognized Tribal Nations in Arizona, and 574 throughout the United States), there are important observances, celebrations, ceremonial events and dances, practices and event dates that can be fluid through the calendar year, and faculty, staff and students may request a religious accommodation.

Please reach out to our Tribal liaison Ann-Marie Chischilly if there are any questions regarding Native American and Indigenous observances and the Equity and Access Office at EAO@nau.edu regarding all religious accommodation.
