Are you ready to take the next step toward your future career goals? Whether you are looking for a full-time position for after you graduate, an internship to gain experience in an industry, options for continuing your education in graduate school. The Career & Graduate Expo has something for you—no matter your major or career path. Mark your calendar for Thursday, February 15th!
What is the Career & Graduate School Expo?
The semi-annual Career & Graduate School Expo provides an opportunity for students of all majors to connect with employers and graduate schools as they pursue internships, full-time employment, and further education.
The event will be held from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 15th in the University Union Fieldhouse, 1050 S Knoles Dr. Flagstaff, AZ 86011.
Why should you attend the Career & Graduate School Expo?
- Find Jobs or Internships: There will be many employers attending that are ready to hire NAU students of all majors. Organizations from many different industries have both full-time positions and internships available. You can view the specific employers who will be attending through Handshake.
- Meet with Graduate Schools: Looking to further your education? Graduate schools from across the country will also be represented at this event ready to speak with you.
- Make Connections: Even if you’re not ready or don’t think there are any opportunities for you at this Expo – come chat with representatives from a few of the organizations that you find interesting. So much helpful career information can be learned during these conversations. For example, you can learn what it’s like to work in a given industry, city, company, etc. You can make contacts with employers who may be willing to do an informational interview with you in the future. You could find out ahead of time what skills to work on so when you’re ready for that job, internship, or graduate program, you’ll have what the organization is looking for.
How can you prepare for the Career & Graduate School Expo?
- Create a Resume: If you don’t already have a resume, visit our website and watch this video for tips to create your first draft. Once you have a draft, you can schedule an appointment with NAU Career Development through Handshake to have it reviewed in preparation for the big day, or come to our walk-in hours. Then print copies of your finalized resume on resume paper to bring with you to the Expo!
- Rehearse your Elevator Speech: Your elevator speech is your chance to make the best first impression possible. Watch this video and check out this worksheet to understand all of the parts that should be included in your elevator speech.
- Come Prepared: Stay in the know on which organizations will be attending so you can plan who you will approach at the event. Don’t forget to do your research about each company ahead of time!
- Find the Perfect Professional Dress Outfit: It is important to dress professionally as this will be the first impression you make on potential employers/educators and you want to make sure it’s a good one. Check out NAU Career Development’s Pinterest Board to put together the perfect outfit.
