Healthy lifestyles start here! Regardless of your workout style or fitness level, we have something fun and challenging for you!
Group Fitness
The group fitness program provides a variety of fitness classes for the NAU community including yoga, cycling, Zumba, Pilates, boxing, and more! Our certified instructors guide you through safe and enjoyable workouts and all equipment is provided. Participants of any fitness level and experience level are welcome. You are sure to find a class that will motivate you to keep reaching your health and fitness goals! Sign up online to participate in our classes, and all classes are free!
*Online class registrations are mandatory for all participants, but just a reminder, the classes are free.

Cardio
This class will challenge your cardiovascular endurance with sprints, climbs, and jumps. Designed to increase your stamina, get ready for the ride of your life!

Dance
Zumba
A Latin based dance class that incorporates pop and hip hop as well as other international beats. Take the ‘work’ out of work out and have fun while burning a ton of calories.

Mind and Body
All Levels Yoga
Regardless of your yoga experience, join us and work on your breathing, flexibility, and strength while letting go of the stress in your life.
Pilates
Activate core muscle and body awareness in one class. This class uses your body to help build strength, stability, and flexibility. Some classes will incorporate props, such as rings and Pilates balls. All levels are welcome!
Gentle Flow Yoga
Low-intensity yoga class will help build strength, help with balance, and reduce stress. This class is perfect for those just starting out with yoga but is geared toward all levels
Paddleboard Yoga
Enjoy yoga on a standup paddleboard! This version of yoga helps increase balance and core strength while having fun on the water. Paddleboards are already provided and wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting wet! No paddleboard (or yoga) experience is necessary!
Yoga Sculpt
This class mixes weightlifting with yoga to bring a unique blend that helps build strength and increase flexibility. This class is suitable for beginners as well as advanced yogis. Come ready to move and sweat!
Vinyasa Yoga
Advance your yoga practice by flowing through movement with breath. This class is focused on continuous movement by stringing postures together. Increases body awareness and endurance through this class.

Strength
Full Body Strength
Come ready to strengthen all your muscles in one class. This class used barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, etc. to help build up your strength and muscular endurance.

Grit and Grind
Feel strong and powerful with this interval based format that works both strength and cardio at in a fun and challenging circuit. Get ready to work hard and raise your heart rate!

Kickboxing
Kickboxing is a full-body workout that will help improve your cardio and strength. In this class, you will learn to use the punching bags and gloves with proper techniques and have fun in the process.

Women on Weights
A small group weightlifting class for women, led by female certified Personal Trainers. Learn the fundamentals of strength training in a comfortable, inclusive environment for all individuals identifying as female. (Registration online required)

Employee Fitness
- We are currently focusing on core offerings for all members of the recreation center. Please check our small group offerings for Faculty and staff only programming.
Fitness Policies Accordion Closed
- Patrons must have purchased a membership or visit pass to utilize group exercise classes.
- Programs may be strenuous; it is recommended that participants consult a physician to determine their fitness level before beginning any Group Exercise program.
- Participants are required to wear appropriate athletic attire. Jeans, cargo shorts, khakis, and other street clothing are prohibited. These policies must be followed at all indoor and outdoor Campus Recreation facilities.
- Non-marking, closed-toed, athletic shoes are required except in specific group exercise classes.
- Participation is first-come, first-served. Instructors reserve the right to determine class maximums based on equipment and facility space.
- Semester class schedules are subject to change or cancellation.
- It is recommended for safety reasons that participants attend entire class for appropriate warm-up and cool down. Participants will not be admitted into classes 5-minutes after the scheduled start time.
- Personal items should be placed in cubbies or lockers prior to participation. If there are no lockers available, personal items may be placed at the back of the studio, along the wall. Please do not place personal items along the mirrors.
- Water in a closed container is the only beverage permitted in group exercise classes.
- Equipment utilized during class must remain in the corresponding room/closet; return equipment to designated storage location at the conclusion of class.
- The instructor reserves the right to ask a participant to leave if these policies are not followed.
Personal Training
Your workout, your way
NAU Trainers are nationally certified and provide education, motivation, and guidance to help all clients achieve their goals. Each training experience will receive a personalized approach and exercise program that reflects your individualized fitness level and experience and includes fitness assessments, goal setting, proper workout techniques, and health education.
How to get started:
- Complete and submit a Client Intake Form to fitness@nau.edu
- Print and scan or pick one up at the Check-in Counter
- The Fitness Coordinator will respond to your intake forms within 2 business days.
- You may also choose your trainer or we will match you with one based on your goals and availability.
- Your assigned trainer will contact you to schedule a free consultation which will include:
- Discussion of goals and your new client paperwork
- What training package will best fit your needs.
- Purchasing Personal Training packages is easier than ever through our online portal.
What’s next?
If you already know that Personal Training is right for you, you may immediately purchase your training packages. All training packages include a free consultation to discuss goals and paperwork.
Your first meeting with your trainer will also include a complimentary fitness assessment that includes body composition testing, blood pressure, heart rate, and muscular strength and endurance. Results are interpreted by your trainer to help personalize your training experience.
Personal training packages
Fitness Assessment Accordion Closed
Understand your current fitness level and track your progress toward your goals. Our trainers can help you assess:
- cardiorespiratory endurance
- muscular fitness
- flexibility and balance
- body composition
Your trainer will conduct the following assessments and review your results based upon standardized fitness classifications.
*Personal fitness assessments are limited to 1 per semester
Design Me a Workout Accordion Closed
(3 sessions with a Personal Trainer)
- Session#1– Complete a consultation and fitness assessment with your personal trainer.
- Session#2– Walk you through your personalized program with your trainer. Your plan will be for 4-weeks, easy to follow, and set up for success.
- Session#3– After you complete your 4-week plan, meet with your personal trainer to assess the program, address any concerns, evaluate your progress, and determine your best steps to move forward.
One RM Testing Accordion Closed
- Session#1– Complete a consultation and fitness assessment with your personal trainer to create your program based on your preferences and goals.
- Session#2– Work through your upper body one rep max tests. Includes bench press, shoulder press, and more.
- Session #3- Work through your lower body one rep max tests. Includes barbell squat, leg press, and deadlift.
- Session #4- Receive your 6-week progression plan from your trainer
One-on-one training Accordion Closed
Working one-on-one with a personal trainer has a multitude of benefits. Most importantly, your trainer will personalize your exercise plan to reflect your objectives, fitness level, and experience. Our trainers can assist you with:
- cardiovascular fitness
- strength training
- sport-specific training
- stress relief
- flexibility
- weight management . . . & more!
Buddy & Small Group Training Accordion Closed
- Grab a friend or even a few! This style of training is effective in realms of accountability and goal setting with peers.
- Buddy training is with one other individual. Small groups are made up of 3-8 individuals.
- All sessions are 60 minutes and Personal Training packets must be turned in together at time of payment.
- Small groups must register in person at the Recreation Center.

How To Purchase Accordion Closed
- Purchase your Training Sessions or Fitness Assessment online, or at the front desk of the Recreation Center within the Health and Learning Center (Bldg. 25).
- Fill out your Personal Training Packet and bring it to the Recreation Center front desk within 48 hours after purchase. Copies available at the front desk.
Cancellation Policy Accordion Closed
- Sessions that begin late will end as scheduled; arrival 15+ minutes late without notice will result in the loss of session without refund.
- Client-requested schedule changes or cancellations require 12-hour advance notice from client to trainer. Failure to do so will result in the loss of session without refund.
Expiration Policy Accordion Closed
Personal Training packages expire within the following weeks per sessions.
- Assessment: 4 weeks
- 3 sessions: 3 weeks
- 6 sessions: 6 weeks
- 12 sessions: 12 weeks
- 18 sessions: 18 weeks
- 24 sessions: 24 weeks
