Gender-Inclusive Housing (GIH) was established in 2012 to create a supportive and engaging community for interested students, including gender-expansive, non-binary, and transgender students, to experience a greater sense of belonging and connection while living on campus.<\/p>\n\n
GIH rooms are located in all of Campbell\/<\/a>Morton<\/a> and McDonald<\/a>,<\/a> and some areas of Gabaldon<\/a> and Honors.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n Traditional-style living communities have community restrooms shared by community members on the floor and are designated as all-gender restrooms in Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) communities. Individual shower stalls have long privacy doors, interior hooks, and no side gaps. Toilet stall doors have no side gap.<\/p>\n Suite, semi-suite, and apartment-style living Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) communities have restrooms within the living unit shared by suite mates.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n When completing your housing application, select Gender-Inclusive Housing (GIH) on the “Tell Us Your Focused Housing Interest” page. This will lead to a statement of understanding and questions to answer. Campus Living professional staff will review your responses to determine your interest and understanding of this housing option and will confirm space availability. If space is not available or if we have questions about your application, we will contact you to address your housing needs.<\/p>\n The review process for the following Academic Year will happen at the end of each month for applications submitted by the 15th of that same month. (e.g., focused housing applications submitted by November 15 will be reviewed by the end of the month. Students will receive communication by the end of that month, too.) Requests will be considered in the order they are received.<\/p>\n If you wish to leave after selecting a community, you will need to utilize the standard room change process available to students throughout campus. We strongly encourage you to consider the benefits and responsibilities before applying to these housing options.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Once accepted into GIH, you will be able to browse, invite, and accept roommate requests, and select your room through the Housing Portal. You will only see rooms and roommate options that are available for GIH. If you do not have a roommate preference, you can select your room at your designated room selection time and another GIH student, who may or may not share your same gender or gender identity, will select your room. Residents of unfilled rooms may be moved and\/or matched with roommates to ensure only GIH residents occupy GIH rooms. All students are required to complete roommate agreements discussing preferences, communication standards, shared space, and expectations for each roommate.<\/p>\n Only<\/span> GIH residents will be able to live within GIH spaces.<\/p>\n Space is based on availability at the time of room selection and is not guaranteed.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n It is Northern Arizona University\u2019s practice that students select their own rooms, not parents\/guardians\/family members.
