Why are my nipples changing colors? Normally one is a lighter pink than the other but sometimes they both turn brown. Its usually when I’m cold and warming up or taking a shower makes it go away, but I’m just really worried about being pregnant. I also have the implant and I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it!
Hello! That sure does sound stressful. Color change in nipples and areolas (the small ring of skin surrounding the nipple) usually occurs because of hormone changes. These changes typically occur during pregnancy or with the use of oral contraceptives. This can also happen with an implant, although that will typically be a slower progression over time since there is only progestin in the implant.
If you are concerned about pregnancy, it’s best to take a pregnancy test immediately because of the risk of an ectopic pregnancy with an implant. This can be done using an over the counter test, or by scheduling a visit with Medical Services. Also, be sure to remember that while the implant is very effective in preventing pregnancy, it does not protect against STIs. Health Promotion has your back though, and can provide you with resources (including condoms) to stay safe while you’re having fun. Thanks for asking this great question!
