Chad Hamill began teaching at NAU in 2007 and specializes in music and sovereignty, music and spirituality and Indigenous ecological knowledge. His book, Songs of Power and Prayer in the Columbia Plateau explores song as a vehicle for spiritual power among tribes of the interior Northwest. His next book will focus on Indigenous ecological knowledge, climate change, and what he has termed the “sacred geography of song.” Hamill currently serves as Chair of the Department of Applied Indigenous Studies.
