Uniform adoption of tools supports consistency. As a community, advisors supported:
- Automated advisor assignments – Historically a manual process, the automation significantly improved the rate at which new students and those who changed their major were assigned to an appropriate advisor.
- This past year, the advising appointment tool (appointments.nau.edu) was launched for all NAU undergraduate students (as well as some graduate students). The tool allows students to schedule an appointment with their advisor online. The most direct benefit of this tool is the convenience for students. With uniform adoption (complete December 2017) messages to students about how to connect with their advisor has improved. In addition to student service, appointment data support informed choices about improving availability and access for students.
- Advisors were instrumental in the communication and roll out of multi-term enrollment. To date, approximately 60% of NAU students enrolled for fall also enrolled for spring. This pattern will significantly adjust the work done by academic advisors this fall. Redirecting enrollment outreach to activities that support accuracy, efficiency, and relationship building present opportunities during the next academic year.
