ACCESS TO PROGRAMS, SERVICES, INFORMATION, AND TECHNOLOGY INTERIM POLICY STATEMENT

Northern Arizona University (“The University”) will take appropriate steps to ensure equal access in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. The Act prohibits disability discrimination in any program or activity that receives Federal funds or is conducted by an executive agency. The University will ensure that persons with disabilities have access to all of its programs, services, activities, and information that is comparable to the access provided to persons without disabilities.

As a part of that commitment, the University requires that all Information and Communication Technology (ICT) purchased, developed, maintained, or used by the University meet Federally recognized accessibility standards (Section 508 for ICT generally, WCAG 2.0 AA for web accessibility). The University will comply with all statutory requirements to ensure that employees with disabilities have access to and use of ICT to perform their assigned functions, and students with disabilities have access to and use of ICT to participate in University programs and services. The accessibility and usability of ICT will be comparable for all employees and students, regardless of disability, unless an undue burden would be imposed on the University. If a necessary product cannot be made or acquired that fully meets these standards, the person or department desiring to acquire the product must submit a plan for equally effective alternative access of the features that are deficient.

The Equity and Access Office is available to provide employees with policy guidance and technical assistance. Director Jamie Axelrod is the University ADA Coordinator and 504 Compliance Officer. Email Jamie.Axelrod@nau.edu. Phone: (928) 523-8773.
