- If in person, ask for a picture ID
- If you are releasing information over the phone, exercise caution and make a reasonable effort to authenticate the caller
- Avoid faxing or emailing printed information: Faxes and emails are considered to be less secure than conventional mail
- Exercise caution if you feel you must fax or email records
- Adhere to NAU’s Data Classification and Handling Policy
You have the right and responsibility to deny requests for information if the requester is unauthorized.
- It is illegal to share education records with anyone other than the student, someone whom the student has authorized in writing to receive the records, or those who have legitimate education interest
